Books by Barry Hughart

Possibly the shortest bibliography on the web, as he has written only three books, and no short stories. Still, I am attempting to compile a list of all editions of his books, including uncorrected proofs.

A.1 Bridge Of Birds
The first of the "Master Li" and "Number Ten Ox" books. Co-winner (with Robert Holdstock's Mythago Wood) of the 1994 World Fantasy Award.

a. New York: St. Martins Press, 1984. 256 pp. $13.95.
Uncorrected proof. Although the front cover shows the correct title, the rear cover and spine add a leading "The". I know of only two copies in existence.

White wrappers with black printing.

aa. New York: St. Martins Press, 1984. 256 pp.
First edition. Reportedly 35,000 copies were printed. A number of boxes of remaindered (but unmarked) copies were purchased by Dreamhaven Books in Minneapolis, and sold in a few years, as reported to me by the manager in 1990.

Yellow cloth. Issued with dust jacket (shown).

b. London: Century Publishing, 1984. 248 pp.
First British edition, first state dust jacket. Apparently this dust jacket was only sent with review copies. The jacket was changed after the book won the World Fantasy Award, but before the book was shipped to stores.
